Ewaso Lions has been receiving book donations for almost 2 years for the Lpus Leluai Primary School in Westgate. The school had almost no books in 2008. In 2009, we received a large donation from Chip Owen followed by a donation of books from my mother and her friends in Nairobi.
More recently, I corresponded with the Desai Memorial Foundation members and together with Johnson Lenasalia, the headmaster of the school, we applied for a large order of books. We were thrilled to learn that they accepted our request and purchased the books. Johnson traveled to Nairobi to receive the books and we met the president and chairman of the board.
Johnson displays the donated books. “I am so grateful to the foundation for assisting our school. It means so much to us and many children will now have access to books they need for their education. Ache Oleng”.
Elephant Bedroom camp in Samburu kindly agreed to transport the books to Samburu and they are now in the new library that we have established at Lpus Leluai. We’re currently thinking of a catchy name for the library – do you have any suggestions? We’d like there to be a wildlife theme in the library name.
The library and other new school buildings were opened on the 22nd of November. We were there and will send you an update soon. If you have any books to donate to the library, please do contact us.
A very special thanks to the Desai Memorial Foundation for these books.
