Although we are thousands of miles away, you may be out of sight but you are never out of our minds. We are thinking of you and are united in this period as we all go through the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Kenya confirmed its first COVID-19 case on Friday, 13th March 2020. Our government has since released a set of strict directives aimed at minimising the spread of the virus in the country. Many of you have reached out to us, worried about what measures we are putting in place. Your kind thoughts mean a lot to us. We would like you to know that Ewaso Lions has formulated and begun implementing a COVID-19 Protocol in adherence with these directives, and we have readjusted our programmes and activities to conform to the recommendations.
The work of building coexistence often involves regular interaction with communities and other stakeholders. We have put on hold all activities that involve contact including community meetings and workshops, our literacy schools, Lion Kids Camps and our lion collaring work. Our team in the field are monitoring the lions and mitigating conflict whilst adhering to hygiene and social distancing recommendations. Our Nairobi team are all working from home and continue to be available and on hand for all administrative and logistical work. All systems are in place to adhere to national and global directives should the situation in Kenya change.
We know that as you are reading this, you too are living through equally difficult times. While the uncertainty of the world threatens us all into panic, we have decided to take the stillness as a chance to connect more with you, and to hope more for recovery of the world as a whole. Do look out for our Annual Report coming out soon online. Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram which we are flowing with messages of hope and reflection to keep us all upbeat, nourished and connected.
Our mission is more important now than ever.
Thinking of you,
Shivani, Jeneria and Resson
