Ewaso Lions donated 60 new desks to Lorubae Primary School, which is located near Samburu National Reserve in Kenya.

Ewaso Lions has donated 60 brand new desks to a local primary school as part of an innovative conservation agreement. Thanks to a generous gift by one of our donors, we were able to provide the much needed desks to Lorubae Primary School in northern Kenya. The school now has 30 desks for Standard 8 students with a lockable compartment for book storage, and 30 bench style desks for Standard 7 students that seat two children each.

Under our Education Program, we support local Kenyan schools that cannot always provide resources to meet their students’ needs. Given the strong ties between youth education and wildlife conservation, we support schools as a way of building capacity for Kenya’s future wildlife leaders.

Ewaso Lions Launches A New Women’s Programme: Mama Simba

Mar 14, 2014 | Categories: Community, Education | 2 Comments

We train women in a variety of conservation issues including the importance of carnivores for the ecosystem.

Until now, Ewaso Lions has engaged warriors, elders, and children. When women from the area were keen to get involved in conservation, they approached us for conservation training and education. Now, Ewaso Lions is working with Samburu women in a number of ways through our new programme, Mama Simba – which means Mothers of Lions.

Samburu women have rarely been actively included in conservation activities in northern Kenya. Yet, they spend a significant amount of time in wildlife areas as their demanding lifestyle includes fetching water, collecting firewood, and looking after livestock at times, which means they often come in contact with wildlife. And because women remain in the villages for much of the time while warriors and elders ...

Visiting the Painted Dog Conservation Project in Zimbabwe

Dec 16, 2013 | Categories: Education, Staff, Training, Uncategorized | Leave A Comment »

Jeneria flew from Kenya to Zimbabwe to visit the Painted Dog Conservation project and see how they run their successful Children's Bush Camp.

This post was written by Jeneria, who recently visited the Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) project in Zimbabwe. PDC is a fellow Partner project within the Wildlife Conservation Network. WCN sponsored this trip so that Ewaso Lions could learn from the experience of PDC, especially about their Children's Bush Camp, which will help us as we shape and grow our new Lion Kids Camp.

I was very excited when I learned that I was going to visit a conservation project in Zimbabwe, called the Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) project. I found out that the project I was going to visit did a lot of community work including the Bush Camp, which brings children from local schools and educates them on wildlife conservation.

When I flew from Nairobi to...

Science books donated to kids at Lpus Primary School.

Thanks to the Desai Memorial Foundation, in Nairobi, Ewaso Lions was able to donate a large number of school text books that were lacking at the Lpus Leluai Primary School in Westgate Community Conservancy.  The headmaster, Johnson Lenasalia, met with all his teachers at the school and came up with a list of all the books that the growing number of children required.  With the final year examinations coming up, these books were urgently needed. The books were delivered recently and there are some happy children at Lpus Leluai now!

This is our second book donation to the school. Click here to read about the first donation.

Many thanks to the Desai Memorial Foundation for their continued support and donation....

Opening library

On the 22nd of November, Lpus Leluai Primary School located in Westgate Community Conservancy officially opened their new the Simba library, which Ewaso Lions made possible.  There were several dignitaries present for this occasion including Honorable Letimalo, the MP (Member of Parliament) for Samburu, the DC for Samburu and the Area Education Officers.

The new buildings were opened followed by the new Simba Library that Ewaso Lions started a few months ago.  Thanks to donations from my mother and other family members, and the Desai Memorial Foundation, the library is now stocked with enough books for the school, which has grown tremendously over the past few years.  Previously, more than 4 or 5 children would share 1 book.  Now...
